The Da Vinci Code turned out to be really good as expected.
As we discussed in class, it was one of the more interesting books because it
has that plot structure where it went up and down between good and bad. It also
had multiple plots going on which made it great. Each chapter was a different
perspective. Towards the end of the book the thing that too me from surprise
was the way the book disproved Christianity. For instance, Brown, the author,
once said, “The poem’s final reference – Rosy
flesh and seeded womb – was a clear allusion to Mary Magdalene, the Rose
who bore the seed of Jesus” (Brown 446).
This was referring to the point in the book where they discuss how Jesus
had a wife. Mary Magdalene, by the books claim, was actually the wife of Jesus
and she had Jesus’s kid. This can bee seen at the point where it said “the rose
who bore the seed of Jesus. They actually give interesting evidence by claiming
that in The Last Supper by Da Vinci
the person seated to the left of Jesus is clearly a woman. The woman was Mary
Magdalene, Jesus’s wife.
The best part of the book was the way Dan Brown took what
many hold true to themselves and twisted it. In the book a character named
Silias says, “The keystone. It will lead us to our final
goal” (Brown 76). The Holy Grail, which many claim to be the challis that Jesus
had at the last supper, in the book is a list of documents that were claims the
Jesus had a wife. The whole book was about solving a murder and finding this
“key Stone”, or Holy Grail. Although it has all of these statements that said
Jesus was mortal, and the fact I’m Catholic, I still feel as though the book
was great. I don’t really mind what they said and really found it interesting
to see a different take on religion. I would recommend this book to anyone.
